King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences – Jeddah

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
East Meets West Near Mecca

Medical students and researchers are now studying advances in medicine and patient care in a new academic medical center campus, which creates an oasis in the desert setting for the education of future health professionals. The site’s colleges feature an encircling and shading plan, protecting an inner lining of calm and openness with a verdant, contemplative world of courtyards and gardens. The sense of respite is brought inside to the buildings’ users as they move about their day with views through large expanses of glass.

The project focuses on circulation within and between all of the interconnected colleges, research buildings, and the adjacent hospital complex, creating synergies and promoting interdisciplinary education.

The design brings together modern design with ancient courtyard Arabian strategies that address the climate.
The series of gardens, courts, and the main campus quadrangle are planned to encourage socialization, growth, and development of all individuals who are focusing their careers on well-being.
Day-lit corridors refresh the students, doctors and researchers
