Washington University School of Medicine Breaks Ground on New Neuroscience Building

Continuing our commitment to designing world class academic research buildings, we are partnering with CannonDesign on the new Neuroscience Research Building at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. To improve collaboration among researchers and attract top talent, the design of the building breaks down traditional silos. The 600,000 SF facility aims to significantly increase research funding and position the University as a top institution nationwide.

Between its proximity to the adjacent Cortex Innovation Community and the design’s emphasis on encouraging relationships and collaboration, this project will provide a tremendous opportunity to expand neuroscience research across departments. Meeting rooms and huddle spaces are dispersed throughout the building, while a centralized zone with an open stair connecting all research floors creates a central collaboration zone.

The tall, dynamic lobby at the building's base will provide a civic presence and connect the two primary points: one at grade on the east end near Cortex, and one on the west end at level 3, where it connects to the campus-wide “Link” connection bridge.
